PlugSecure: The Startup Bringing Cybersecurity to E-Mobility Raises €720,000

3 MIN READ

PlugSecure, the startup pioneering cybersecurity in electric mobility, has raised €720,000 in pre-seed funding. The round was led by Apeiron Ventures, with participation from Genesis VC, a Greek family office, and angel investor Alexandros Karavitis.

The story behind PlugSecure

Following their successful journey in the e-mobility services sector, co-founders Eleftherios Karabatsakis and Petros Benos launched their second venture, PlugSecure, with the mission of protecting charging networks from cyberattacks and malicious activity. This is a global issue that has been rapidly escalating in recent years, and one that the founders encountered firsthand in 2021, prior to the acquisition of their first company, Carge, by PPC Group.

This time, they are joined by a third co-founder, George Anagnostopoulos, a security expert returning to Greece from the UK after a decade, turning “brain regain” into reality.

PlugSecure is the first security-as-a-service platform dedicated to electric vehicle charging infrastructure, ensuring the safe operation of charging stations through advanced monitoring. By developing a powerful data analytics system, the platform detects vulnerabilities, attacks, and anomalies, while logging all issues with the help of artificial intelligence—safeguarding both charging providers and EV drivers.

“Every month, thousands of euros are lost across Europe from charging sessions that are not systemically recognized and are completed through external fraudulent means,” said PlugSecure Co-Founder and CTO, Petros Benos.

The platform has already attracted the interest of major charging providers, several of whom are on the waiting list to access its Beta version. At the same time, the team is securing all necessary certifications to support and safeguard charging networks.

“The pre-seed funding secures the most crucial period of growth for our team and product. We are delighted to have investors and partners with diverse backgrounds supporting our mission in every possible way,” said PlugSecure Co-Founder and CEO, Eleftherios Karabatsakis.

Investor perspectives

“We are thrilled to support PlugSecure and its exceptional founding team as they tackle one of the most critical (and often overlooked) challenges in the transition to e-mobility: securing the infrastructure that underpins it. The team’s founder-market fit is outstanding, combining top-tier technical expertise with a deep understanding of the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape within the EV ecosystem. As EV adoption accelerates, the need for reliable, flexible, and intelligent security-as-a-service solutions is more urgent than ever — and PlugSecure delivers exactly that,” commented Apeiron Ventures Partners Dimitris Kalavros-Gousiou and Nikos Antoniou.

“PlugSecure addresses a critical gap in the cybersecurity of EV charging infrastructure — an issue that will only intensify as the market grows. With an experienced team and a timely solution, we believe they can set the standards for the entire sector. We are excited to support their journey,” added Genesis Ventures Partner, Dimitris Maroulis.
